Sitting down and listening to a Fireside Chat with Ellie Goulding, Halle Berry and Lucian Grainge was eye opening discussing the evolution of Women’s Leadership.
As we listen in on their chat, what is clear is the way one grows up in the home is what they become accustomed throughout their adult lives. Lucian Grainge shared the progressive attitude of his mother growing up. His mother was one of many first professional women in the United Kingdom to choose a professional career, deemed in the 1960’s strictly for men. Where other children would have their mothers picking them p from school, this was not his everyday experience as a young man. Therefore, he became accustomed at an early age that women had leadership roles other than being stay at home mothers with children. But that they, too, had dreams to achieve goals outside of being a mother who only takes care of children. While at the same time, he respect all women who choose to be a stay at home mother.
Halle Berry, on the other hand, while she truly respects the motherhood of yesterday, says we have to understand that the role of women is changing today. Gone are the days of a woman staying home while the man brings home the pay for the entire family. And in understanding the evolution of the growth expansion of women in high level positions, where their children can experience them playing in roles in television and film as superheroes to CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies, we must continually support the emphasis of young girls and boys being empowered to continually achieve the same and empower one another.
Elle Goulding spoke of the profound way her Manager has three young boys and they are empowered in seeing their mother manage high profile celebrities, while still understanding she is their mom.
What do you think of the ever expanding roles of women and men today?
