Listen Give believes in the importance of bringing girls/boys and women/men together in partnership. When we support one another, a difference in the world is made. In every part of this world, partnership between both are perceived in a different manner.
While culture definitely plays an important role, we are human. Culture can be something we learn from, but it can create separation. Culture is perception. A western perception may not be the right approach to take when communicating gender equity to another culture. To foster communication as an example in a patriarchial community, you have to find a common ground where the men of the community can begin with small steps in supporting the women of their locale – gain a consensus. Otherwise, one will encounter resistance for 1) pushing a western agenda onto a society too fast that is steeped in another fmor of tradition and 2) resentment of western influence.
In western culture, its acceptable for women and men to share their thoughts on gender equity and gender equality. The western culture, was not always a place for women to have the roles they have today. We have had to evolve to this point and continue to do so.
Listen Give has thusly chosen to support solutions that cater to the partnership of all genders.
Our student ambassador, Z. Brown, chose to share her thoughts. (We released this video for #DayoftheGirlChild and garnered positive feedback – we thought it was great as a reminder for education and #BringBackOurGirls who are still missing.)
